"The
Truth About Referees"
The Truth About Referees was a documentary shown on ITV1, which included
an interview with Anders Frisk about the events that led to his retirement
as a referee after the Chelsea vs Barcelona game in 2005. It also focuses
on the problems that referees at all levels are having with indiscipline,
which often leads to abuse and even violence from players.
Andy Barton discussed how he works with Premiership and League players with poor disciplinary records to control their anger. He also discusses how he works with young players to be able to control their emotional state so that they can be more effective on the pitch.
The programme also included contributions from David Beckham and Urs Meier, who suffered from a vitriolic campaign from the British media after, controversially, disallowing a goal for England against Portugal in Euro 2004.
